CMS to Levy Penalties for High Readmissions on 2,499 Hospitals

In fiscal year 2022, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will levy penalties on 2,499 hospitals for excess hospital readmissions within 30 days of discharge, according to federal data analyzed by Kaiser Health News and reported by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Penalties against 2,499 hospitals will save Medicare an estimated $521 million during the 2022 fiscal year. How can your hospital avoid these penalties?

CPS has just released a new white paper: Avoiding CMS Penalties from High Hospital Readmissions that reviews how hospitals can reduce rehospitalizations. In the white paper, CPS subject matter experts share how leveraging Readmission-Focused Transitions of Care can decrease all-cause readmissions by up to 30%.
