“Finding balance: A pharmacist-driven fall prevention program for patients with multiple sclerosis” was presented at The Consortium of MS Centers (CMSC) 2024 Annual Meeting.
The authors: Courtney Zitterkopf, PharmD; Amanda Hickman, PharmD, MPH, MSCS; Jessica Mourani, PharmD; Casey Fitzpatrick, PharmD, BCPS.
The background: Falls are a common and complex risk for patients living with multiple sclerosis (PwMS)—nearly 70 percent of patients experience a fall every six months. Health system specialty pharmacy (HSSP) teams regularly see PwMS. Could they play a role in helping to reduce fall risk?
The objective: To describe how an HSSP pharmacist-driven fall prevention program can impact fall risk for PwMS.
A key learning: HSSP teams are well-equipped to decrease fall risk through counseling, medication management, and championing partnerships between care teams and patients.
