Outcomes Study: Health System Specialty Pharmacist Interventions Related to Patient Reported Outcome Measures

Members of our team had the opportunity to present a new poster abstract at the ASHP 2023 Midyear Clinical Meeting held December 3-7.

Background

  • Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are questionnaires used to assess subjective data associated with a disease state.1 PROMs can assist providers in tracking changes in clinical symptoms over time, improving the quality of patient care, and providing better disease control.
  • Health system specialty pharmacies (HSSPs) have implemented disease-specific PROMs into routine pharmacy workflow, which includes monitoring PROMs through clinical dashboards. HSSPs have demonstrated success in utilizing PROMs through a standardized, protocol-driven approach.
  • Despite the demonstrated benefits of PROM usage, pharmacist interventions related to PROM collection is not well documented. Therefore, more research is needed to understand the role of HSSP pharmacists in addressing PROM responses.

Objectives

The objectives of this project are to quantify PROM utilization and associated interventions as well as determine acceptance rates of interventions related to standardized PROM collection across partner HSSPs.
