Background
- In December 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began approving multiple coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines through emergency use authorizations (EUA) to protect against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2)
- As of March 2022, 15 months post approval of these vaccines, 66% of the United States population were fully vaccinated
- Currently there is no data existing that shows the vaccination rate in people diagnosed with a mental illness
- According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) having certain medical conditions, including a mental health condition can lead to a more severe infection with COVID-194
- Certain living conditions, such as living in congregate living areas like long-term care facilities and jails lead to a higher infection spread
- Based on other vaccine studies, there are presumed factors that play a role in vaccine acceptance or declination
Objectives
Primary Objective: To assess factors associated with COVID-19 vaccination in patients who are admitted to an inpatient forensic psychiatric hospital
Secondary Objectives: To compare vaccination rates of the COVID-19 vaccine to the influenza vaccine in patients who are admitted to an inpatient forensic psychiatric hospital
